God continues to move

October Ministry Update

Denton Fall Retreat 2024!

God is so good, and I’m consistently blown away by how He works. We had our yearly fall retreat for our Denton campuses two weekends ago and we had 260 people show up! The most that we have ever had at a fall retreat! What’s greater than that is how excited they were to get to know Jesus better and to dive into forming close friendships in their time in college.

These retreats have historically been a way for us to solidify the budding friendships and community that somewhat reforms at the beginning of every year. With our growth this year I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t accomplish that goal as well as the years in the past, but so far I’ve seen so many people that have been able to deepen both their connections with one another, and more importantly their connection with God.

We had a gospel choir for our worship night!

Our theme for the weekend was moving from me to we. Getting them to reflect on the fact that the Christian life calls us to think about much more than just ourselves. Instead we are to situation ourselves as part of Gods larger story that has been going on since the beginning of time. That story involves much more than just us, and we are to embrace that we don’t belong to ourselves, but instead we belong to one another as the body of Christ. We’ve seen that switch in mentality, from me to we, be crucial for our students to really take the next step in their faith, to become disciples who go out and make more disciples for the glory of God! We’re praying that this fall retreat helped move the needle on that.

The thing I was reflecting on the most though, was just how good God is. I’m consistently amazed by how much he continues to work despite me often feeling like I’m not even close to having this all figured out. I resonate with what Paul in 2 Cor 4 “we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” All glory belongs to God with how He is working through our ministry this year, changing hearts and minds and creating disciples of Jesus. It’s not because we’re good but because God is!

Eli came to the retreat for a bit and loved it!

Please be praying that we can remain faithful and obedient to however God calls us to work this harvest field this semester! And be praying that we continue to have the energy to finish out this semester well!

Elias turned 1 this month! Crazy to think we’ve already had a whole year with him!
